Ecological Sewage Treatment Plant

Ecological Sewage Treatment Plant

At UWC Mahindra College, we’ve installed an Ecological Sewage Treatment Plant (Eco STP) built in 2014, which treats 30,000 litres of sewage daily without using any electricity or chemicals. The treated water is used for irrigating campus gardens.

Eco STP uses Phyto enzyme (one-time dosing) and semi-aquatic plants that enhance dissolved oxygen, improve pH & support aerobic bacteria, breaking down organic solids present in sewage. Annually, 10 million litres of treated water from the Eco STP are available for irrigation. In addition, about 32,850 kWh of electricity and about 3 tons of CO2e are saved.
