All food waste at UWC-USA is collected and composted to create high quality compost.

New Mexico is in a record 20 year drought. The strong summer monsoons cause runoff and floods because the dry hard soils can not absorb rainwater. UWC-USA adds the high quality food waste compost / organic matter to enrich the soils and promote water infiltration, which in turn slows down and reduces surface runoff, reduces erosion and floods. The added benefit is increased resilience to wild fires and carbon sequestration from plant growth.
