Klostergarten Service

Klostergarten Service

The Klostergarten service is a unique program that allows students to immerse themselves in the world of gardening and horticulture. This program involves a range of tasks that students undertake in and around the Klostergarten, a 500-year-old monastery garden that is an integral part of the school’s heritage.

Students who participate in the Klostergarten service are responsible for various tasks, such as weeding, planting, and processing the resources the garden provides. These tasks not only help to maintain the garden’s natural beauty, but they also teach students about the importance of sustainable living and how to grow their own food.

Furthermore, the Klostergarten service is not only about learning how to garden but also about discovering and preserving historical traditions. The garden was cultivated in the tradition of the Carthusian monks, and students and local volunteers have continued this legacy by maintaining the garden’s historical features..

Working alongside Eva Maria Schüle, the head gardener, as well as local garden volunteers has been an enriching experience for students. They have learned a great deal about organic gardening, rare crops, herbs, and other aspects of horticulture that they may not have otherwise been exposed to.

In addition, the Klostergarten service has brought the school community together, with students, teachers, and volunteers all working towards a common goal. This program has helped to foster a sense of community spirit and pride in the school’s heritage, as well as an appreciation for the natural world and the importance of sustainable living.
