Food Footprinting – Finding out how much land your food needs

Food Footprinting – Finding out how much land your food needs

How big is your meal?

Have you ever wondered how much land is required to produce a single meal? The Food Footprinting activity is about visualizing the amount of farmland that is required to grow all the ingredients (including fodder for animal products) required for, say, a plate of pasta Bolognese or a hamburger with fries.

Understanding how much land we need for producing our food, and what difference different choices can make, can help us better understand how human food production influences our planet, and what choices we have.
