Amphibian rescue at UWC RBC

Amphibian rescue at UWC RBC

In spring 2023, UWC RBC students helped a local biodiversity conservation NGO to protect amphibians – frogs, toads and newts – migrating from the forest where they live to the lake where they spawn (lay eggs).

As there is a lake between the forest and a lake where many amphibians get run over by cars, environmentalists have erected plastic fences on both sides of the road along the stretch where most animals are trying to cross, thereby stopping the animals from getting onto the road. UWC RBC students walked along the fence, picked up the animals behind them, put them in buckets and then carried them across the road.

In this way, our students helped protect several hundred amphibians.
