UWC NYC is thrilled to invite you to a special celebration that marks both a new beginning and a cherished tradition within the UWC community.
The 2nd Annual UWC Convocation will take place on 21 September 2025 and will welcome our community’s newest members: Davis UWC Scholars arriving in the NYC metro area this fall. For those of you arriving as first-year Davis Scholars (i.e, class of ’25), there will be a welcome gift package for you!
Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from speakers and engage in small group discussions designed to inspire and showcase the power of collective action. This year’s theme is “Voices for peace”.
Speakers:
Mudit Tyagi – UWC USA ‘88, this year’s UWC-USA Giulio Regeni Alumni Impact Award recipient. Founder of Akshara, an initiative based in India that empowers rural youth through long-term educational and vocational support.
Juan Mejia Botero – UWC USA ‘95 – director of Igualada, a 2024 feature-length documentary that chronicles the rise of Afro‑Colombian activist Francia Márquez—from her early days defending her rural mining community to launching a groundbreaking presidential campaign and becoming Colombia’s first Afro-descendant Vice President
After the main events conclude, there will be a casual Arepas dinner/drinks starting at 6 PM at the same venue, so you can mingle with your newly made friends
