Earth Hour 2025

Earth Hour 2025

For the second consecutive year, the UWC Thailand community proudly participated in the global Earth Hour movement, initiated by the World Wildlife Fund. On 22 March 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm Phuket Time, we went beyond conventional activities like reconnecting with nature and took a bold step by embracing a zero-electricity hour, with almost all lights across campus turned off. In this pitch-dark environment, students engaged in an exhilarating game of ultimate hide-and-seek, transforming a symbolic act of environmental awareness into a memorable and meaningful bonding experience.

In organising this event, the DP Sustainability Committee made a conscious effort to minimise waste, highlighting the real-world challenges of adopting a truly sustainable lifestyle. One of the biggest takeaways came from a simple yet frustrating reality—when shopping for ingredients to bake treats for the event, we found that products with plastic-free packaging were scarce. And even when sustainable options were available, we faced a tough dilemma: are we willing to pay the “environmental premium” despite a limited budget

These challenges reinforced an important lesson: sustainability is not just an abstract goal but a daily practice that demands both awareness and action. Despite the hurdles, the sustainability committee led by example, demonstrating that even small, mindful choices contribute to a larger movement towards environmental responsibility.

As we celebrate the success of Earth Hour, we reflect not only on the power of collective action but also on the continuous journey of making sustainability an integral part of our lives.
